Saturday, March 28, 2025, 10:00AM
Annie W. and Elizabeth M. Anderson Theater, Memorial Hall

From jazz clubs to ballrooms to chorus lines, vintage jazz dance had a widespread influence on popular culture of the early 20th century, and paved the way for classic burlesque styling. In this workshop, learn from Jo Monroe of Rochester, NY and explore the aesthetics, rhythms, and values of early jazz dance, as well as important cultural context. You’ll come away with new movements and musicality to bring jazz styling into your own burlesque acts!

Annie W. and Elizabeth M. Anderson Theater, Memorial Hall
Join Aurora Maur of Dayton’s Gem City Burlesque in a veil workshop where you will not only learn foundations of veil dance, but how this beautiful prop can enhance sensuality and playfulness in a performance.

Our time together will start with a brief dive into the history of veil dance and veil types in performance. We will transition into learning movements leading into a slow and slinky choreography. All levels are welcome but the emphasis is on Beginner and Intermediate.

If you do not own a chiffon fabric veil, please purchase one here.

Wickedly whimsical showgirl of Dayton’s Gem City Burlesque, Aurora Maur, has performed burlesque for over a decade ! She has shimmied her way across stages from the MidWest over to both coasts and beyond the US. She is over the moon to be sharing her love and admiration for veil dance with the QOTWBF community. Her hope is to inspire more performers to work with this stunning and simple prop!

Come unveil your tease with Aurora on March 28th!
